This year has been good to me, I’ve learnt my craft (and got bloody good at it too), moved to Mac, got a job, then a better one in that London doing what I learnt this year and made some good money along the way which has let ne lead a good life.

I wonder what 2010 will bring to me.

Client: I’d like to create a place where photographers can post their photos and everyone can go to the site and look at them. It will be like a portfolio.

Developer: Sounds great, but there are already great sites out there for this (Flickr, DeviantArt, etc). How will yours be different?

Client: Ahh, you see there is a flaw with all of those websites.

Developer: What’s that?

Client: On those sites, anyone can download the photos by right clicking. I need you to build me a site that won’t let users download the photos.

Developer: I’ll have to get back to you….

Client: We love your WordPress theme designs. How much would it cost to have you do themes for us? We would be giving you pretty regular work, maybe as many as a couple a week.

Me: Well, my usual fee for a commercial site would be $1500 to $2000 but if you’re going to be bringing in consistent regular work maybe we can work out some sort of deal.

Client: Oh, we were thinking something more like $50 per theme.

Me: That’s too low. I wouldn’t be able to do that.

Client: That’s what we were paying our previous designer.

Me: Maybe you should stick with him.

Client: He was a student. He did a terrible job, never finished anything on time and disappeared on us.
